Carbon Activity 1

I PLEDGE TO TURN DOWN MY THEMOSTAT 3º

Just 3°F DOWN in the winter and 3°F UP in the summer can reduce your carbon footprint by over 1,000 pounds every year!

I PLEDGE TO USE 100% LED BULBS AT HOME

LED bulbs look great and use a lot less power. PLUS, each 60 watt bulb you replace can save $125 over the five-year life of the LED.

I PLEDGE TO HAVE 1 MEATLESS DAY A WEEK

If everyone in the U.S abstained from eating meat, fish, or dairy one day per week, we would eliminate 9 million tons of carbon.

You can save up to 8 gallons of water EVERY DAY with this tiny change!

I PLEDGE TO WASH ONLY FULL LOADS OF LAUNDRY AND DOUBLE CHECK I’M USING THE CORRECT LOAD SIZE

You can save hundreds of gallons of water and watts of electricity just by waiting to wash only full loads!

I PLEDGE TO CHECK MY TOILETS AND TAPS FOR LEAKS TWICE A YEAR

Leaks can waste over 200 gallons per day- that’s up to $70 in a single month!

Say no to disposable plastic bottles! Over a million are purchased every minute, and only a small fraction of them get recycled.

For every million cell phones recycled, 35,000 pounds of copper, 772 pounds of silver, 75 pounds of gold and 33 pounds of palladium can be recovered.

Each tree absorbs about 50lbs of carbon annually! That can mean over a ton of carbon over its lifetime.

Biodiversity Activity 2

I PLEDGE TO PLANT NATIVE WILD FLOWERS AT HOME OR AT WORK

Plant native wild flowers. These are beautiful, support pollinators, enrich the soil, and help protect against invasive species.

I PLEDGE TO LEAVE NO TRACE ON MY HIKES AND OUTDOOR RECREATION

Eliminate the chance of widening trails, spreading invasive species, harming local habitats, and generally being a nuisance to nature by leaving no trace on your treks!
